Funded by Vancity's EnviroFund program, are 5 short documentaries on how to have a zero waste indie film set, based on ZERO short film 🖤A dark comedy about a zero waste serial killer.
A ZERO WASTE JOURNEY
ZERO short film is a 🖤dark comedy about a zero waste serial killer, with one bloody mission to combat climate change and overpopulation. The protagonist is none other than the strong and independent Beatrix, a woman who strives in her spare time to make the world a better place by combating climate change the best way she knows how. But fear not, this story is a funny take on the very much alternative options to preserve our environment!
Greenseeds helped to make a behind the scenes documentary about the filmmakers' efforts to have a zero waste production! One of our mandates as a non-profit organization, is to engage youth in hands-on projects that incorporate green techniques and practices. Learn about that and the filmmakers' other efforts (such as in having an on-set intimacy coordinator!).

Episode One
In this video, we talk to Gareth Jones, the Gaffer on set, about powering the set of ZERO using electric / rechargeable power provided by Portable Electric! We also talked to Co-Producer of Zero, Andy Alvarez about catering. Lupii Cafe is a company aiming to reduce waste themselves who provided the ZERO cast and crew with delicious food that was locally sourced and zero waste.

Episode Two
In this video, we talk to Theo Kim, Co-Producer of Zero - the dark comedy, about transport using Modo car co-op! We also talked to 1st Assistant Director, Maxime Beauchamp about how paper waste was cut on set.
Episode Three
In this video, we talk to Natalia Peixoto, Production Designer of ZERO short film - the dark comedy, about props and set design! We also talked to Alison Jeffreys about Makeup and special effects.
Episode Four
For our final video in this series, we talk to Mike Johnson, Director of Zero - the dark comedy, about Zero’s zero waste journey! We also talked to Writer / Sustainability Producer, Alyssa Kostello, about ZERO short film’s low carbon footprint and how it was achieved.
Intimacy Coordination
In this video, we talk to Megan Gilron about Intimacy Coordination on the set of ZERO! We weren’t just working to limit waste on set, we were making sure the actors felt safe and listened to when it came to intimate moments. Intimacy Coordination is a great new (important) role popping up in the film industry and we were lucky to have Megan on set with us!
